*Salary Min is Training Wage. Once completed, wage increases to Salary Maximum* The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Answers incoming emergency assistance calls. Independently assesses need and urgency of requests and situations, and dispatches emergency response personnel including law enforcement personnel, firefighters, emergency medical personnel and others to incident/accident scenes. • Receives and accurately relays/transcribes information, messages and requests for the Communications Center. Enters data and information into Department and State computer databases. • Operates and maintains radio and telecommunication systems including computer-aided dispatching equipment, mobile data terminal messaging, Teletype, telephone device for the deaf (TDD), fax machines, telephones and computer keyboards. • Maintains knowledge of current emergency communication policies and procedures and has knowledge of state and local dispatch codes. Participates in on-going training. • Selectively answers telephone requests for information. • Performs emergency warning notifications. • Performs clerical and general office functions, including minor repair and maintenance. • Provides court testimony as required. • Monitors bank, business and residential alarms and notifies appropriate person/agency as required. • Operates Teletype equipment; enters warrants, stolen vehicles, missing persons and other information. • Maintains logs, records and files as required.

Responsibilities:

Position Responsibilities

The purpose of the Telecommunicator/ 911 is to perform emergency communications tasks for the Sauk County Sheriff's Office. Essential Duties Include: Answer emergency 911 calls from the general public, gather incident information, dispatches the appropriate emergency safety personnel such as police, fire, ambulance and other counties, and enters the call into the computer-aid design (CAD) database for tracking. Prioritize phone calls based on urgency, and maintain telephone contacts with callers during dangerous situations. Document reports taken regarding juvenile runaways, warrant services, and other important situations, and forward the report to the appropriate personnel. Utilize the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division 131 dispatch center. Track status of County Deputies, police, and other emergency personnel regarding availability, location, and work schedule. Provide information to deputies and police regarding outstanding warrants, suspect/subject data, driver and vehicle information, and complaint investigations. Enter missing persons, stolen vehicles, guns, articles, and various other items into the Transaction Information for the Management of Enforcement (TIME) System as required by the State Department of Justice- Crime Information Bureau. Monitor National Warning System (NAWAS) weather services, activate warning sirens and issue warnings to emergency personnel in Sauk and surrounding Counties. Set up transportation for Chapter 51 commitments, inmates, suspects, detainees, and prisoner transports.

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

Candidates with prior dispatching experience at a similar agency may start above hiring rate depending on prior years of service (lateral transfer for salary). Starting wage for an experienced candidate can be beyond Step 3 ($23.53) on a case-by-case basis.
