Positions Supervised:   Direct supervision of Associate Deans, Office Supervisor, Faculty, Academic Coaches, and Lab Technicians. Indirect supervision of Faculty, Lab Technicians, and office support and part time employees.

Salary Grade:   G

Travel Required: Day- 8/month; overnight- 2/month


HOURS: Typical hours Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; Flexibility required to include other evening and/or weekend hours as necessary.


*Current benefit eligible employees will be placed within the pay range based on their current rate/range.

The Dean of Public Safety’s primary purpose is to provide visionary leadership in the strategic engagement and alignment of the department in achieving the mission, vision, values and strategic priorities of the college. This will include leading the instructors and staff of the department in product development, quality instructional and assessment practices, student success outcomes, and collaborative partnerships within our increasingly diverse district. Serves as a member of the Learning Leadership Team.


Education: Master’s Degree in a field related to public safety, higher education or leadership.


  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively more responsible experience in leadership, preferably in higher education or a field related to Public Safety such as law enforcement, fire, emergency management, or human services is required. Experience should demonstrate evidence of successfully leading teams and developing partnerships.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion including cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Two years of teaching experience, preferably in post-secondary education is preferred.**An equivalent combination of education and occupational experience may be consideredComputer Skills: Microsoft Office suite


Certificates & Licenses: Eligible for WTCS certification as an Instructor Administrator


Other Requirements: Must hold a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the District’s standard insurance policy terms.

  • Ensure viable, relevant, and high-quality curriculum is utilized in all program areas, i.e. associate degree, technical diploma, certificate, and continuing education.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure compliance with State, Federal, district, and programmatic accreditation requirements and to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Participate in the Learning Leadership Team to provide input on academic policy and programs and other matters related to the College.
  • Develop and manage strategic partner relationships with technology suppliers, business and industry, community organizations, and secondary and post-secondary educational institutions. Partner with post-secondary educational institutions to develop academic policies and programs.
  • Develop, manage, and coordinate strategic initiatives to enhance economic development, i.e. K-12 initiatives, committee and board participation on strategic initiatives (local, state, and national), assisting with securing grant funding, etc.
  • Ensure that the department adheres to the rules and regulations of Public Safety governing and accrediting bodies as it relates to Public Safety programs, curriculum, delivery and Instructor requirements
  • Ability to maintain and establish professional relationships with district-wide Public Safety professionals and Vendors.
  • Build and maintain external relationships through conferences, advisory, state-called and district-wide Town Board meetings to anticipate emerging trends in Public Safety and to work with Public Safety Faculty teams to integrate emerging trends in academics.
